Work safely in equine workplaces
Application
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to plan, support and implement work health and safety processes in an equine workplace, including hazard identification, risk assessment and control.
This unit applies to workers who interpret and implement health and safety policies and procedures that apply to equine workplaces, to reduce risk in their work, for others and horses. They work under broad direction and apply knowledge, discernment and judgement to solve problems and resolve issues that occur when working with horses.
Commonwealth and state/territory health and safety and animal welfare legislation, regulations and codes of practice relevant to interacting with horses apply to workers in this industry. Requirements vary between industry sectors and jurisdictions
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication, except for the racing industry, where requirements vary between states and territories.
