Maintain aquariums and/or aquascapes and aquatic animals
Application
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to monitor water quality in aquariums and/or aquascapes, and monitor the health and behaviour of aquatic animals. Aquatic animals may include fish, aquatic invertebrates (including crustaceans and corals), amphibians and turtles.
This unit applies to individuals working in the animal industry sector who maintain aquariums and/or aquascapes and aquatic animals. They work independently and take responsibility for the quality of their own work, including carrying out assigned tasks, organising processes, selecting products and techniques, solving routine problems and working to required timeframes.
All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures according to Commonwealth and state/territory health and safety and animal welfare regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.
