Provide sanitary and hygiene grooms for companion animals

Application

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake sanitary and hygiene grooms, including complete shaves or clips for companion animals, to maintain and/or restore animal health and welfare. It assumes a working knowledge of basic pet first aid and species-specific behaviour and handling.

This unit is applicable to individuals who work in the companion animal industry sector where grooming services are provided. They work independently and take responsibility for the quality of their own work, including carrying out assigned tasks, selecting products and techniques, solving problems and working to required timeframes.

All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures according to Commonwealth and state/territory health and safety and animal welfare regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
