Conduct an animal welfare audit of a meat processing premises

Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to conduct an audit of animal welfare prior to slaughter, and an animal welfare audit of the slaughter process.

This unit applies to individuals who are employed to undertake animal welfare audits at a slaughtering establishment. This unit provides an animal welfare context to complement existing auditor training.

Animal welfare audits conducted under this unit must be carried out according to the Industry Animal Welfare Standards for Livestock Processing Establishments Preparing Meat for Human Consumption.

In addition, all work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety, food and meat safety regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
