This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to organise and monitor waste management operations. It includes scheduling and organising personnel, plant, equipment and materials to meet operational requirements and monitoring activities on site to ensure quality and regulatory compliance. It includes supervising personnel to ensure capacity and licensing is appropriate for the work being performed, identifying training opportunities to address individual skill gaps and ensuring the availability of skilled personnel to meet work schedules.

A person who achieves this unit of competency is able to use specialised knowledge to complete routine and non-routine tasks and deal with predictable and sometimes unpredictable problems.
