Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to maintain the safety and welfare of offenders in short-term incarceration whilst outside of a prison or their ordinary residential custodial facility. It includes maintaining the safety and security of offenders whilst in interim care and custody.

An individual undertaking this role may work autonomously or under supervision undertaking tasks involving a limited number of steps, in familiar and predictable contexts.

The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to, particularly those related to health and safety of offenders, interaction with offenders in custody and security.
