This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to express own cultural identity through artistic practice. The local cultural knowledge necessary to achieve competency in this unit may only be accessible to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. This unit also reflects the fact that there is no single Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture.

The unit applies to individuals who work independently or with others to produce artistic works for exhibition in galleries or for sale at markets or through a range of distribution channels. They could also be giving expression to their cultural identity through music, dance or screen productions.
