Install staging elements

Application

This unit describes skills and knowledge required to install different staging elements for live productions in the entertainment and events industries. It involves confirming production requirements, completing installation tasks and confirm elements of the stage comply with safety guidelines and licencing requirements.

The unit applies to those who use some discretion and judgement and operate under broad supervision within an established framework of plans and procedures for staging installation.

The National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work applies to persons performing dogging, rigging, scaffolding work and operating elevating work platforms. Completion of the following units is required for certification and where applicable, at either basic, intermediate or advanced levels:

  • CPCCLDG3001 Licence to perform dogging
  • CPCCLRG3001 Licence to perform rigging basic level
  • CPCCLRG3002 Licence to perform rigging intermediate level
  • CPCCLRG4001 Licence to perform rigging advanced level
  • CPCCLSF2001 Licence to erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding basic level
  • TLILIC0005 Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more).

Sets and staging for some performances or events may fall within the definition of construction work. If so, people entering a construction site are required to complete the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (Australian Safety Compensation Council, May 2007).

Achievement of the unit ‘CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry’ fulfils this requirement.
