Euthanise or destroy crocodiles
Application
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to carry out euthanasia or destruction of crocodiles in a humane way that complies with safe operating practices and with ethical, welfare and legislative requirements.
The unit applies to individuals who are required to euthanise sick crocodiles, or to individuals who have permission from the appropriate authority to destroy crocodiles for population management or for human safety following an incident or a potentially dangerous situation. Individuals are required to exhibit appropriate care for crocodiles so that stress and discomfort are minimised.
All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety, biosecurity and environmental regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.
Licensing permits from the appropriate states or territories apply to this unit. Licences or permits may be required for the use of firearms or restricted drugs on crocodiles or if operating vehicles.
