Application
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to develop low risk heavy vehicle driving behaviours in others.
It includes demonstrating applicable low risk heavy vehicle driving rules, regulations and strategies to drivers, delivering training on low risk heavy vehicle driving principles and monitoring and maintaining low risk heavy vehicle driving behaviours of drivers. It also includes evaluating drivers on their low risk heavy vehicle driving competence, reviewing evaluation of driver low risk heavy vehicle driving competence dealing with behavioural barriers to learning, developing heavy vehicle operation and control skills, and interpreting and applying regulatory requirements and road law expertise.
It also includes developing higher-order cognitive and technical skills, such as hazard perception, correctly reading a driving environment and responding appropriately, exercising risk management strategies that contribute to low risk heavy vehicle driving behaviours, and meeting community expectations.
This unit applies to heavy vehicle driving trainers.
Work is performed without supervision. Developing low risk heavy vehicle driving behaviours in others involves the application of learning principles of different cohorts, instructional methods, training competence and experience, higher-order heavy vehicle driver expertise, navigation skills, road law expertise, routine procedures and regulatory requirements across a range of operational situations and a variety of driving contexts.
