Undertake configuration management to support integrated logistics

Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to undertake configuration management (CM) to support integrated logistics.

CM is an engineering discipline and a formalised approach to ensure that the integrity of the equipment is maintained throughout its serviceable life. CM is conducted through the application of five disciplines, including CM planning, configuration item identification, configuration control, configuration status accounting, and configuration verification and auditing.

This unit applies to aspects related to integrated logistics support (ILS) of the hardware, software and other artifact configuration control/management as well as elements of the mission and support systems. It will be supplemented by (and apply) training in the specific tool/application used to support CM within different workplaces.

This unit is appropriate for technical specialists supporting integrated logistics functions. Typically, these individuals will have existing vocational or higher education qualifications related to engineering, and significant engineering support experience. They must demonstrate the ability to work independently or as part of a team under direct and/or indirect supervision, use discretion and judgement, and take responsibility for the quality of their outputs. All activities are carried out in accordance with relevant policy and procedures.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
