This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to coordinate the operations of a first response team. Coordinators will organise workplace emergency response procedures and communicate with external emergency agencies.

A first response team prepares for and responds to emergency incidents that pose an immediate risk to a power generation facility. The operation of a first response team is to support emergency service agencies.

Competency in this unit requires the ability to coordinate a workplace emergency team, cooperate with other emergency services personnel, evaluate an emergency, respond to an emergency and to report the outcomes of an emergency response. Individuals will, in general, work as an operator, with coordination responsibilities, in a power generation facility.

Power generation plant operators are trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to work.
