Respond to a critical incident

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to respond to a critical incident that may impact the operational effectiveness of a power generation facility’s plant or system, endanger human life, damage or destroy property and/or have an adverse impact on the environment.

A critical incident refers to a crisis that may result in a high level of risk, directly or indirectly, to the core operations of a power generation facility. A high level of risk would be determined using the risk management processes outlined in the power generation facility’s risk management system.

Competency in this unit requires the ability to identify a critical incident and consequences, stabilise power generation system, restore power generation system and review response to incident. Individuals will, in general, work as an operator, in a power generation facility.

Power generation plant operators are trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to work.
